In today’s fast paced society we all struggle to find time to cook. Between work, family, and taking care of the day to day aspects of life we are eating out more often. While there is no doubt that eating out is convenient, it is not something you should do for every meal! If you do, this much is certain – you will end up being overweight or obese (if you are not already)! The World Health Organization cites that worldwide over 1 billion people are overweight, and that more than 300 million people are obese.
Staggering isn’t it?
Instead of always eating out you can clean up your diet with these simple tips:
Hydrate with water. Drink half of your body weight in ounces daily.
Go green with fresh green vegetables. Try to eat a pound of raw and a pound of cooked vegetables daily. Raw vegetables are easy to pack and you can graze on them throughout the day. Green vegetables contain alkaline. Alkaline equals energy. Our diets are so acidic that we rely on caffeine and other energy drinks to keep us going throughout the day. If you increase your alkaline intake you will increase your energy. When shopping, stick to the perimeter of the grocery store as it is where the perishable foods are kept. Try and stay away from the aisles which generally contain foods that have a long shelf life. These are foods you can do without. Remember, FRESH FOOD will satisfy your hunger and fill you up without all of the extra calories.
If you want to see where you fit into the overweight or obese picture have your BMI and your waist circumference measured. A BMI greater than 30 places you in the obese category. A waist circumference greater than 40 inches for men and 35 for women places you at risk for chronic diseases associated with being overweight. The certified trainers at Pinamonti Wellness Center can help you track this information using the MyWellness app which comes with your membership. Don’t join the growing number of obese people.
